dances with dirt

stu allen photo  It was literally a cold day in Hell, Michigan.  My wife Shelia and I lined up in the dark waiting to start our day of adventure.  That would entail 50 miles of insane terrain known as Dances With Dirt.

I ran my first ultramarathon at Dances With Dirt-Hell in 2000.  It was a life-altering experience for me.  I did the 50k race that year, just 5 miles longer than a standard marathon, but worlds apart.

A lot of folks have been hopping on the Insane Running bandwagon as of late. Tough Mudder, Warrior Dash, Muddy Buddy come to mind and there are many others. There has been a race in Hell, Michigan that is nearly two decades old that defines Insane Terrain. Dances With Dirt. Maybe it's the economy.  Maybe it's technology overload.  Maybe people are figuring out what some of us have known for years.
