Kidnapping and More
Michael Barajas allegedly took in a 20-year-old woman in late November and locked her in a room in his home where she was sex trafficked for weeks.
Sheriff Chris Swanson shared the gruesome details in the video below.
"I want to make it very clear," Swanson says. "These are the kinds of things that happen in Genesee County, they happen in Flint, they happen in Michigan, they happen around the country. People that have teeth that are filed down to points, that are threatening to rip out the throats of victims. It happens."
Swanson says staff members at Flint's Hurley Medical Center contacted his office when the victim escaped and came into the hospital in the first half of December.
Multiple Suspects, Multiple Charges
Sheriff Swanson tells ABC-12 that there are multiple suspects in the case and it remains an ongoing investigation.
Barajas is facing the following charges:
- Human trafficking involving kidnapping or criminal sexual conduct.
- Kidnapping.
- First-degree criminal sexual conduct.
- Possession of methamphetamine or ecstasy.
- Assault with a dangerous weapon.
- Assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder.
- Using a firearm to commit a felony
"But these multiple count felony warrants, they don't even touch what happened to the victim," Swanson said.
Barajas is currently lodged in the Genesee County jail and is scheduled to appear in court on December 22.
