The St. Louis Cardinals were not expected to make the playoffs. 10 and 1/2 games out of contention for the Wild Card at the end of August, they scrapped and clawed their way into the postseason on the very last day of the regular season. Then they had to play the heavily favored Phillies in the Divisional Series and they found a way to knock them off. They upset the Brewers in the NLCS, and were the underdogs going into the World Series against the slugging Texas Rangers. Down 3 games to 2, the Cardinals won an epic Game Six in extra innings after coming from 2 runs behind twice. Game 7, the Rangers scored twice in the opening innning.

We had our ace, Justin Verlander on the mound for a "win or go home" game 5 in the best of 7 American League Championship Series against Texas. The Rangers quieted the crowd with a run in the top of the first inning, and this looked like it might end badly. The Tigers would have none of that today, as Alex Avila finally got hold of one and hit a solo homer in the 3rd to tie the game at 1-1. Delmon Young connected in the 4th to give the Tigers a 2-1 lead.

Jose Valverde is still perfect in save situations this season. The problem is that he has been pretty awful in non-save situations all year long. Tonight, in a non-save situation he was blown out again. After an 8 pitch 10th inning, Valverde gave up a double to Josh Hamilton on the very first pitch of the 11th. After striking out the next hitter, the Tigers elected to intentionally walk Adrian Beltre to pitch to Mike Napoli in hopes of inducing a double play.

The Tiger pitching has been pretty good so far in the ALCS, but the Rangers have been better and that's why Detroit trailed 2 games to none going into tonight's game at Comerica Park. The Rangers got to Fister for a run in the first inning and then the game settled into another pitcher's duel as neither team would score until Victor Martinez reached the seats in the 4th with a solo homer to tie the game at 1-1. Fister took control from there while his teammates got their bats going. Miguel Cabrera had an RBI double in the 5th to put the Tigers ahead 2-1, Jhonny Peralta blasted a solo homer to extend the lead to 3-1 in the 6th

Rain interrupted Game 1 of the American League Championship Series between the Tigers and Texas Rangers. Game 2 was called off hours before it was scheduled to begin, and will be played tomorrow afternoon (weather permitting). The Rangers beat Detroit 3-2 in the first game which had nearly two hours worth of delays in the 5th inning. Max Scherzer will face the Rangers' Derek Holland in a game scheduled tomorrow afternoon at 4:19. The postponement also eliminates a scheduled day off for travel as Game 3 will still take place Tuesday night in Detroit.

You had to stay up pretty late to see the end of this one. If you're a Tiger fan, you didn't like the final outcome as the Texas Rangers beat the Tigers in ALCS Game 1, 3-2. The Tigers and Rangers both have explosive offensive teams, but after Mother Nature caused both starting pitchers to exit this game early, the scoring came to a halt. Justin Verlander pitched just 4 innings and gave up all three Ranger runs. Ranger starter C.J. Wilson returned to the game after the first rain delay (41 minutes) and that's when the Tigers finally got to him.
