Sheriff’s Department Hit Hardest With Genesee County Budget Cuts

To close it's nearly $18 million deficit, the Genesee County Board of Commissioners has a proposed budget in place that will eliminate 65 positions.  The hardest hit will be the Sheriff's Department with 31 positions being eliminated.

According to Sheriff Robert Pickell, it's unlikely that the positions will be put back in the budget.  Funding for his drug team POSSE has also been cut.  The Sheriff's department had cut the 15% commissioners asked for, totaling roughly $3 million.  Discussions are expected to continue for the next couple of weeks before the budget is adopted September 28.
