August 3rd is National Watermelon Day, and there isn't a better treat to enjoy on a hot summer day than a juicy slice of watermelon.

There are many types of watermelons and many ways to enjoy them.  I like to spit the seeds and see how far they travel.  You probably did the same when you were a kid.  Maybe you still do.

Most people just cut and eat watermelon "as is", but you can do many things with this tasty staple of summer.  Put watermelon in a smoothie, or even pop it on the grill.

Watermelon is one of my favorite foods to eat when I am running a long distance race.  It is chock full of  nutrients and it always tastes good.

Pick up a watermelon or two at your favorite grocery store or farmer's market.  They are in season and the local produce tastes best.  Celebrate National Watermelon Day and enjoy one of the tasty treats of summer.

Go ahead and see how far you can spit the seeds (unless you get a seedless melon).
