Even though it's not Christmas and it's not cold, Genesee County Salvation Army is looking for volunteers to ring the red kettles for their Christmas in July event, according to a recent press release. This is the second year they've done the event  in the summer to try to secure more donations, according to Business Manager William Goodwill:

"As donations continue to dwindle and the need continues to grow, it has become necessary to pursue creative ways to secure funds to support our activities for children and our community outreach programs."

They're looking for volunteers on July 15, 16, 22 and 23 with sites set up Gander Mountain, the Flint Farmers' Market and several Walmart and Sams Club locations. Funds raised will be used to support the Salvation Army's Summer Day Camp programs.

It's so easy to help and there are two hour shifts available. All it requires is you to wear Hawaiian attire and sunscreen. So if you're not a fan of the cold and can't help out at Christmas, take a few minutes next month to volunteer.
