Qualifying Flint and Detroit residents can now receive some assistance with those notoriously pricey water bills.

The money is coming from the Great Lakes Water Authority and is available for Flint and Detroit residents at or under the poverty line. The fund has $1.2 million available to residents who need help paying their water bills. $425,000 of that amount is for Flint residents and $787,000 is for Detroit residents.

Houses at or below 150% of the federal poverty threshold are eligible for help with paying current and past-due bills. Customers will get $25 monthly credit toward current water bills.

Customers who make their monthly payments for six months will receive an additional credit of up to $350 toward a past-due bill. Want to apply? Call 313-386-9727.
