Flint Firefighters had a rough weekend, as they were called to 11 fires. One firefighter was taken to the hospital because of smoke inhalation.

According to ABC-12, seven of the fires were in vacant buildings. Battalion Chief Andy Graves had this to say about the fires:

'"We've seen quite an uptick of fires in the past few days. Since Friday there's been 11 working fires in the city, seven of those have been in vacant buildings. Quite a bit more than we'd see for a three-day period.'"

It's been extremely busy for firefighters and last month there were a total of 59 fires. Early this morning, another fire happened at a home on Martin Luther King. So much for trying to relax after a rough weekend. Meanwhile, Governor Snyder has declared this week as arson awareness week.

In the state, over 2,400 fires were started on purpose last year. That's an alarming number and Flint can't seem to catch a break. I guess the only good news from this for now, is that there won't be any more layoffs in the fire department when the city works on the budget for the next fiscal year.
