With a month to go before pitchers and catchers report to Spring Training, the Tigers agreed to terms with two of their arbitration-eligible pitchers. Detroit agreed to 1-year deals with starting pitcher Rick Porcello and reliever Phil Coke. Porcello, who was 14-9 last season agreed to a 1-year, $3.1 million dollar contract.
Phil Coke, the lefthanded reliever also signed for a single season at $1.1 million with incentives built in if he reaches a certain number of appearances. The Tigers have 3 more players who are eligible for arbitration, pitcher Max Scherzer, outfielder Delmon Young, and utility man Don Kelly. If the team and the players can't come to an agreement on their own, an arbitrator will decide the salary, choosing from figures supplied by the players and the team. All three players stand to do very well for themselves in 2012. Here's hoping that they earn it on the field.
