The weather is getting warmer and that means for many, it's time to hit the water. Boating is an activity that many in Michigan engage in during the summer months, and the organizers of "National Safe Boating Week" want you to take a simple step that could save your life. Wear a life jacket when on the water.

In fact, having a life jacket for every person on your watercraft is a law in the state of Michigan. Children under 13 are required to WEAR a life jacket when boating.

Michigan has over 10,000 inland lakes, streams and rivers plus the Great Lakes. Boating is safe and fun if you do it properly. Wearing a life jacket is the one thing you can do to virtually guarantee that you'll make it back to shore in one piece.
