Britney Spears and Simon Cowell have been making the media rounds to promote the new season of 'X Factor,' and last night the pair stopped by 'Jimmy Kimmel Live' for an entertaining chat.

Spears was relatively quiet and polite, while Cowell did most of the talking. Kimmel touched upon everything from the contestants to how impressed he was by the new judges' panel. Then he asked Spears if it's a good idea for a hopeful to sing one of her songs. "Yes," she replied. "It's interesting."

Cowell cut in. "No," he said emphatically. "Well, because they always murder the song. I used to like it because she got so uncomfortable, so I'd let the song go on for as long as possible, as she [is] sinking lower and lower into her chair. So it was kind of like torture, but I loved it."

Spears later opened up about her initial thoughts about Cowell. "I thought he was kind of rude … Yeah, that's the idea that he gives when he's on the show," she said of her opinion before meeting him. "But I talked to him on the phone and he was a total sweetheart, and I fell in love with him. He was so sweet."

Kimmel deftly doled out questions, opinions and jokes, which included calling Demi Lovato, who he thought turned out to be a great judge, "loony." "That was part of the attraction," Cowell responded. "I like working with loony people."

"Oh God, I'm great then!" Spears chimed in. Cowell then added, "No because I'm quite loony as well."

The second part of the two-night premiere of the 'X Factor' airs tonight on FOX at 8PM EST.
