Health officials claim at least 16 people are dead, and more people with illnesses are under investigation from cantaloupes traced to Colorado growers. The Center For Disease Prevention said that 72 illnesses, including the 16 deaths are already linked to the tainted fruit. The death toll includes people from Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska and Texas.Listeria is more deadly than more well known things like salmonella and E. coli. A Listeria outbreak in 1985 killed 52 people and was linked to Mexican-style soft cheese.
