With the price of gas skyrocketing, it makes more sense than ever to explore alternative modes of transportation.  The Crim Fitness Foundation is giving local businesses a chance to help the community and environment with Smart Commute 2011. Register your workplace for the Smart Commuter Challenge and you could win a Victory Party for logging the most miles via alternative modes of transportation.

The local business or organization that gets the highest percentage of employees to walk, bicycle, carpool or use public transit to get to work or do workday errands during the week of May 16-20 will win lunch from the Crim Fitness Foundation.  Worksites will compete in four different categories based on the number of employees.

Encouraging your employees to walk, bike, carpool or use public transit not only saves fuel (and money), but can lower healthcare costs, boost morale and helps to invest in your community.  You can get details and sign up for the Commuter Challenge at the Crim website.

I ride my bike to a lot of places that I used to drive.  I also walk to the store if the load is managable.  Biking, walking or running lets you see more of the neighborhood you live and/or  work in.  It might make you feel like a bigger part of it.  So park your car/truck/suv for a few days and explore some new ways of getting around!
