Michigan State University researchers have developed five new potato varieties designed to improve chip production year-round. The new potatoes focus on disease resistance, long-term storage, and consistent crunch.

Lay's may have just released your new favorite chip flavor. They introduced 4 new potato chip flavors as part of their Do Us A Flavor Contest.  The contest encourages people to invent a new chip flavor to be sold nationally for the chance to win $1million.

Whether you love potato cghips or not, Lay's has an idea that they they hope to make you a "chip lover" with. As a matter a of fact, they have a lot of new ideas about how to alter chips. Here are a few:

A recent study on weight gain found that the potato chip is the biggest cause of the pound-a-year creep that plagues many of us. The study found that chips added more weight than soda, candy, or ice cream.The New England Journal of Medicine analyzed changes in lifestyle and diet of more than 120,000 people, covering two decades.

Everyone has their cravings, some that come and go, and others that last a lifetime.  While I have had my spurts of obsession with certain fast foods that fade after a few weeks, it seems that one of my favorite childhood snacks have come back to haunt me and taunt me.
