Hourly workers at General Motors will grab profit-sharing checks upwards of $4,000, more than had been projected. More than 45,000 hourly workers will get the bonuses which will total more than $400 million in payments for GM.

Just two years removed from bankruptcy, General Motors has rebounded strongly with new designs and new cars, including the new Chevy Volt. It is expected that sharing the auto industry's prosperity will be a focus of future contract talks this year between the United Auto Workers and GM, Ford, and Chrysler.
