Michiganders love their furry four-legged companions. That's why nearly half of the state's residents own dogs. Everyone loves dogs, right? If not, we can't be friends.

Earlier this year, Puppy Spot put out a list of the top five dog breeds in Michigan. These lists vary from year to year and sometimes look completely different depending on who does the study. Let's take a look at their results for 2022.

5. Poodle - Poodles come in a variety of sizes and colors but are easy to spot and recognize with their curly hair. They're known for their intelligence and high energy. They're a great breed but beware, they're known to bark a lot especially if ignored or left alone. Poodles require lots of attention.

4. Labrador Retriever - Labrador Retrievers are an awesome family pet, one of the best. They love to run, play, and of course, retrieve. Keep in mind, Labrador retrievers have a tendency to chew and dig if left alone.

3. French Bulldog - The French Bulldog is one of the cutest dogs on the planet (in my opinion). They're a decent family dog but require tons of attention. It's sometimes said that French Bulldogs are the perfect dog for a single person as they'll tend to fight/compete for attention from family members. French bulldogs don't bark a lot but they sure do snore.

2. Yorkshire Terrier - Yorkshire Terriers are easy to identify as they're one of the smallest dog breeds. Because of their size, they make great pets if you live in a small home or apartment. If you love a dog that barks a lot, you found it.

1. Goldendoodle -The Goldendoodle is not a true dog breed but, more of a hybrid. They're a mix of poodle and golden retriever. This is a fantastic family dog as they're loving and very gentle with young children.

I'm a little bummed to see that Great Danes rarely (if ever) make this list. They are by far, my favorite dog breed in the world. However, I understand why they wouldn't make a list like this as they are a huge (literally) commitment and a lot to take on.

To prepare yourself for a potential incident, always keep your vet's phone number handy, along with an after-hours clinic you can call in an emergency. The ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center also has a hotline you can call at (888) 426-4435 for advice.

Even with all of these resources, however, the best cure for food poisoning is preventing it in the first place. To give you an idea of what human foods can be dangerous, Stacker has put together a slideshow of 30 common foods to avoid. Take a look to see if there are any that surprise you.
