A Michigan community is rattled, and a school is closed after a student was shot while on the school bus earlier this week.

It's absolutely shocking to think that a student could be shot while on the bus after school. How does something like this happen? Well, that's what investigators are trying to figure out.

There hasn’t been much information released by police about what exactly happened Wednesday afternoon at Thurston High School in Redford.

According to Fox 2 Detroit, A student was shot on a school bus at Lee M. Thurston High School in Redford Township at around 2:45 pm.

While the student is expected to be okay and no one else was injured, they did suffer a gunshot wound to the hand. From what we understand, two students were involved, but exactly how the incident happened is still unclear at this time.

There are still many unanswered questions, but for now, the school’s superintendent is assuring students, staff, and the community that there is no ongoing threat.

We want to reassure our community that there is no ongoing threat to students, staff, or the campus. However, out of an abundance of caution and to allow our school community time to process and heal, Thurston High School will be closed on Thursday, May 8, 2025. All other schools in the district will remain open, and after-school activities at Thurston are canceled for that day.

As we get more information, we'll update this article.
