Your Heating Bill in Michigan This Winter Might Make You Cry

You may want to prepare for higher heating bills this winter.

According to a recent interview with Chevron CEO Mike Wirth on CNN, he stated that natural gas prices could be "significantly higher" during the upcoming winter throughout the United States. That is definitely now the news we want to hear as the cold winter gets closer and closer.

I would imagine that this really isn't a surprise to most of us as the price for pretty much everything has gone up.

Prices already are very high relative to history and relative to the rest of the world. We're already seeing this impact being felt in the European economy and I do think it's likely that Europe goes into a recession...said Mike Wirth, Chevron CEO

Unfortunately, there is not a lot we can do right and hopefully, our heating bills aren't too bad. However, there are a few things to do to try and keep the bills lower at home.

• Smart Power Strips. I didn't know these were a thing until today. Devices that continue to draw power when not in use can cost you upwards of $200 each year.
• Keep your refrigerator at the optimum temperature. The recommended temp range for a refrigerator is between 35 and 38 degrees. As long as the beer is cold, we are good.
• Seal your windows and doors. I did this for the first time last year and actually noticed a considerable difference.
• Switch to LED bulbs in your home. This makes a pretty big difference.
• Keep your water heater at 120 degrees. I'm not sure I can get behind this one though. If I don't have a nice hot shower in the morning, the chances of me being stabby are high.
