If you plan to visit any of Michigan's state parks this weekend, good news: you'll get to go for free. Well, as long as you're going on Saturday.
For some reason, many Michigan residents think that it's always free to visit Michigan's state parks. It's not until they actually go that they realize it's typically $25.
According to MLive, On the fourth Saturday of September, the National Park Service waives admission fees in celebration of National Public Lands Day.
What is National Public Lands Day?
National Public Lands Day happens every year on the fourth Saturday of September. It’s a day when people volunteer to help clean up and take care of parks and public spaces. The cool part? Many parks let you in for free, so you can enjoy nature while giving back at the same time.
I know what you're thinking, and no, you don’t have to help clean or volunteer to get in for free.
This Saturday, September 28, these five parks will waive admission fees for visitors:
- Isle Royale National Park
- Keweenaw National Historical Park
- Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore
- Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore
- River Raisin National Battlefield Park
