12-Year-Old Michigan Girl Mauled by Three Dogs While Riding Her Scooter

A brutal dog attack in southern Michigan sent a 12-year-old girl and a woman to the hospital Friday night after three dogs escaped from their kennel.

The attack happened Friday night on Mosherville Road in Scipio Township, a rural part of Hillsdale County in the far southern corner of Michigan.

Michigan Girl Attacked While Riding Her Scooter

According to MLive, the 12-year-old was riding her scooter with a 13-year-old friend when they spotted three pit bull-mastiff mixed dogs in the front yard of a nearby home.

Police say the dogs suddenly charged at the 12-year-old, knocking her off her scooter and attacking her. Her friend wasn't hurt and ran to get help.

Hearing the girls scream, a 31-year-old woman ran over to help. But as she tried pulling the dogs off the child, police say the dogs turned and attacked her too.

Both Victims Expected to Recover

The dogs' owner was eventually able to get the animals under control, but not before both victims suffered some pretty serious injuries.

The 12-year-old's injuries were so severe that she had to be airlifted to Henry Ford Hospital and later transferred to C.S. Mott Children's Hospital in Ann Arbor. The woman was also taken to Henry Ford for treatment. Thankfully, both are expected to survive.

Believe it or not, the dogs are back with their owner for now. Police are still investigating, and once they wrap things up, prosecutors will decide whether to file any charges. They'll also decide what happens to the dogs.
