2024 has been a rough year for some Genesee County businesses. While we have seen some growth with new businesses in certain areas, we've also witnessed many that closed their doors for good due to a number of reasons.

Yes, there were many closures this year but there was also an explosion of new businesses that opened up, especially in the Grand Blanc and Fenton areas.

We also saw some unique moments, including the closure of Detroit Wing Company in Davison and Grand Blanc. In April, Detroit Wing Company abruptly closed one day without giving any notice to employees. It was a shock to everyone as the independent franchise owner closed all three locations, including Oxford. However, they eventually reopened roughly six months later under new management.

In September, one long-time-running local business not only closed its doors for good but also burned to the ground due to arson. Scotti’s Coney Island burned early in the morning on September 26, just days after closing.

Another surprising move was when Rite Aid announced it was closing all of its locations, not only in Genesee County but nationwide.

A lot of stores and restaurants in Genesee County may have closed in 2024 because of rising costs, staffing shortages, and more people shopping online instead of in person. Throw in tough competition and some corporate decisions for franchises, and it was just too much for many to stay open.

Let's take a look back at some of the Genesee County businesses that closed their doors for good in 2024.
