A Helicopter Rains Cash During A Detroit Man’s Funeral
A Michigan man's final wish was to shower mourners with money.
In June 2025, Detroit’s own Darell “Plant” Thomas, 58, lost his fight with Alzheimer’s. His final wish was to have thousands of dollars fall from the sky, and his family made that happen at his funeral on June 27th, 2025.
Mr. Thomas owned Showroom Shine Express, a car wash in Detroit.
A helicopter dropped $5,000 in cash and rose petals on unsuspecting mourners gathered to honor their father at the event on Gratiot and Connor in Detroit.
Can you even imagine? It wasn’t just the mourners catching bills - cash started flying into the streets, too. According to The Detroit News, people were even hopping out of cars trying to grab some green.
Police shut down Gratiot for about 30 minutes. However, an eyewitness reported that there was no chaos, just a 'beautiful' moment.
I love that. It sounds like a scene from a movie.
Clearly, by his last request, you can see Mr. Thomas was a very generous man. Crystal Perry, his niece, called her uncle 'a giver'. I'll say.
What a wonderful final gesture. If all of us could be so lucky, and so generous.
We all know we can't take our money with us when we go. What a wonderful way he chose to bless his loved ones and the community with his wealth.
If you're planning to do something like this, make sure to invite me to the funeral. Jokes aside, Mr. Thomas truly sounds like one incredible person.
