One Bite, Two Pizzerias: Dave Portnoy’s Michigan Taste Test

Dave Portnoy was back in Michigan last week for the USC-Michigan game at the Big House. But in true 'El Presidente' fashion, he's not going to travel without testing out some local slices.

Dave Portnoy is the founder and owner of Barstool Sports. He's known for his fiery personality online and his One Bite Pizza Reviews. He frequents the Great Lakes State because he is an alum of the University of Michigan (Go Blue)!

Recently, he's made Michigan headlines by saying he would spend $3 million in Name, Image, and Likeness money to bring Michigan an elite quarterback year after year.

What Are One Bite Pizza Reviews?

"One bite, everyone knows the rules," Portnoy says before trying each slice. His "one bite" is tongue-in-cheek because it takes 3-4 bites to make sure he gets crust, cheese, and sauce for a true rating. He then scores each pizza out of ten, ordering solely cheese pizza for consistency.

The highest-rated Michigan pizza joint, according to Portnoy, is currently Fredi the PizzaMan, which ranks No. 32 on his list.

What Michigan Pizza Did Dave Portnoy Try?

Portnoy stopped at two Michigan joints in his latest trip: New York Pizza Pie in Rochester Hills, and MiYork East Coast Kitchen in Walled Lake.

Dave called New York Pizza Pie "shockingly light and fluffy," before giving it a solid 7.6 (a very good rating by El Presidente standards).

Up next was MiYork East Coast Kitchen, which, unfortunately, didn't impress Portnoy quite as much. Portnoy spends a whole lot of time on the East Coast, so claiming to be New York pizza was going to pose a challenge. He immediately took note of their "conveyor belt" oven and was unimpressed.

He scored the Pizzeria a 6.4.

If you wait until the end of the video, you see the owner come talk to Portnoy for a review. He softens the blow by upping his score to a *whopping* 6.5.
