Veteran Storm Chasers Predict First Michigan Snowfall of 2024-2025 Winter

While it may be the middle of summer as this article is being written, winter is coming. It does every year. So when the winter of 2024-25 strikes Michigan, when will we see the first wrath of snow and ice?

The question came up recently on the Michigan Weather Facebook group asking storm chasers what their prediction was for the first significant snowfall for Michigan will be.

Some went on the record with firm predictions:

• Upper Peninsula - Late September, Lower Peninsula sometime in October
• November 16th
• November 2
• October 25
• November 8
• October 29
• October 15
• November 11

So something between mid-October and mid-November is a good guide.

Others took cues from past winters or current conditions:

I mean last year it was Halloween soooo

I have seen patches of red trees already in northern Oakland County. And the acorns are falling already

We typically have the first snow on Halloween

look out because the signs are starting. Acorns falling, some leaves turning, geese flocking in fields

Here's the thing about the upper tier of the nation, even if it's summer, winter is never that far off. Consider the National Weather Service in Marquette shared the stat of below freezing temperatures recorded across the UP in late July.

So while you may be enjoying summer weather now and have an entire autumn to enjoy, know that there are those who are already thinking winter.
