Michigan Travelers are Shocked to Find How Immensely Popular ‘Detroit Pizza’ is in Vietnam

Detroit-style pizza has been a culinary thing that's traveled far beyond Southeast Michigan with chains like Jet's and Buddy's gaining regional and even national fame.

But even with this rise of visibility of the square, deep dish pizza, travelers are shocked to find that 'Detroit Pizza' is a thing in Vietnam in a major way. There is more than one chain that serves pizza the Detroit way including Detroit Pizza and Lamie Pizza.

The style is Buddy's-like with a line of sauce baked over the cheese and dough. Check out this TikTok

Turns out there are several tourists who have sampled a taste from home while abroad in southeast Asia:

I had some in Da Nang. It was great. Obviously they can't get the brick cheese but they did a decent job with it anyways.

But it's not just American tastes on the menu at Detroit Pizza in Vietnam. The restaurant's top seller is a seafood pizza topped with shrimp, squid, octopus and scallops.

So should you ever find yourself far, far from Michigan, you never know when a hint of home may pop up.
