Michigan Hockey Team Wears Epic Detroit Lions Themed Jerseys

It's difficult to deny that Detroit Lions mania has taken over much of the cultural zeitgeist in Michigan. The team has cruised to 13 wins as of this writing - a franchise record for most wins in Lions history.

The Lions and homages to them are seemingly popping up everywhere. And the hockey team in Grand Rapids is no exception.

Just before Christmas 2024 the team hosted a football themed night at Van Andel Arena. While the Griffins didn't have the rights to use the name and likeness of the Lions. It's pretty obvious who was being honored with the aesthetic of the team that night.

The jerseys were very reminiscent of the Motor City Muscle alternate uniforms for the Lions with Honolulu Blue on black.

The Griffins are the AHL affiliates of the Detroit Red Wings or the team in the highest minor league to the NHL, a position they've held since 2002.

The team's Gridiron Night game was against the Texas Stars, the two teams are currently battling for the top spot in the AHL Central Division and primed to make the playoffs for the Calder Cup a championship that has been won by Grand Rapids twice, most recently in 2017.
