The Flint Farmers' Market has been named as one of six Great Public Spaces by the American Planning Association on their annual Great Places in America list.

The American Planning Association's Great Places in America program recognizes streets, neighborhoods and public spaces in the U.S. that demonstrate "exceptional character, quality and planning - attributes that enrich communities, facilitate economic growth, and inspire others around the country."

Since the Great Places in America program was launched in 2007, the APA has recognized 245 neighborhoods, streets and public spaces around the country. Places are selected annually and represent the gold standard in terms of having a "true sense of place, cultural and historical interest, community involvement, and a vision for the future."

Besides the Flint Farmers' Market the five other public spaces recognized this year include the Santa Fe Railyard in New Mexico, Hermann Park in Houston, Balboa Park in San Diego, Millenium Park in Chicago and Pearl Street Mall in Boulder, Colorado.
