Diner Employee Gets Scholarship After Being Photographed Cutting Senior’s Food [VIDEO]
A simple act of kindness has earned a Texas teen a college scholarship.
Evoni Williams, who works at a Waffle House in La Marque, Texas, was photographed cutting up an elderly gentleman's food as he dined at the restaurant.
An observant customer, Laura Wolf captured the moment and posted it on Facebook. She tells KVUE-TV that Williams selflessly helped the man even though the restaurant was busy.
“It was so busy in here, and she actually took the time to stop and hear what he had to say instead of walking past him. That just meant something to me."
Williams says she really did not think anything of it until she got a surprise a few days later from the mayor of La Marque.
“He was like, 'My hands are not functioning too well.' He needed me to cut his food. And I did," Williams said. "I got my own day!"
Not only was she honored with the proclamation of 'Evoni Williams' Day,' she was also granted a $16,000 scholarship from Texas Southern University.
Williams has been assigned to a counselor at the university who will help her develop a plan for her curriculum. It's a life-changing opportunity for a teenager who feels she really didn't do anything out of the ordinary.
“It’s something I would do any other day," Williams said.
Williams says her plan is to study Business Management at the university.
We applaud this selfless young lady and wish her all the best as she pursues her education.
