Michael Fulmer capped off an amazing rookie year by being honored as the 2016 American League Rookie of the Year.

Fulmer received 26 of the 30 first place votes, and was the only player to receive a vote on every ballot.

Despite not being called up to the majors until April, Fulmer made a big splash when he did get to the show. Tigers fans got to the point, where we almost expected a win every time Fulmer was on the mound.

More important that his amazing year is the fact that Fulmer is a great guy as well.  When the announcement was made, he was ambushed during his interview by his wife and kids, who were cheering loudly for him.

Fulmer gave much of the credit to his teammates, especially the Tigers last Rookie of the Year winner, Justin Verlander.

Verlander had taken Fulmer under his wing, and it seemed to help both pitchers.  Verlander had one of his best seasons yet, and is up for the Cy-Young award.  Verlander took a minute on Twitter to congratulate his friend.

We will find out on Wednesday if Verlander will win his second Cy-Young award.
