If you're a Consumers Energy customer, you're probably going to see an increase in your electric bill.

On Wednesday (1/9) the Michigan Public Service Commission gave the green light to a $99 million rate increase for the power provider.

The new rates go into effect today. (1/10)

If you're an average homeowner you use 500 kilowatt hours of electricity in an average month, you can expect your bill to go up by $1.62.

The good news is Consumers Energy has agreed not to file a request for another rate increase until January 1, 2020.
