Worst Traffic Lights in Flint

LoopZilla, Flickr

Before traffic lights there was gridlock, we complained about that. Then of course came the traffic light, everyone was happy, except the person that was sitting in front of the red light. Traffic lights, like a lot of things are subjective, depends on the day, time, your mood and how big of a hurry you are in. Having said all of that here are my five least favorite traffic lights in Flint.

Miller Rd and I-69/I-75 Entrance Ramp

This is one of the worst traffic lights in the area in my opinion, have you ever not had to wait for at least two light changes before completing the left turn? Best time to avoid that intersection is during the holiday shopping season.

Court St and Center Rd

This traffic light can be a slow mover just about any time of the day, except in the middle of the night. Worst place to be is northbound Center Rd -- far right lane, trying to make a right turn on Court St. Why does this lane always move so slowly, I think most people are trying to catch the price of gas at the Speedway station.

Exit Ramp Off Eastbound I-69 at Belsay Rd

Here's what makes this a bad traffic light in my opinion. If you try to take a left at the light to head north on Belsay Rd, it's a double lane left, that means a very tight squeeze. I know I had my first fender bender at that light when I first arrived in Flint 20 years ago. I know, they still haven't corrected the problem.

Light at Bishop International Airport

I find this light to be more annoying more than anything else. My problem is a simple one, why did they put a light there in the first place? I have never seen heavy traffic coming out of the airport or heavy traffic on Bristol east or westbound. Before the light, Bristol Rd between I-75 and Linden Rd was clear sailing.

S. Dort Hwy and S. Saginaw St

The Point of Grand Blanc

What can I say about this light that hasn't been said before, it's legendary. It doesn't matter if you're north or south on Dort Hwy, or east or west on Saginaw St., this intersection can be dangerous from any direction. The worse part is merging onto northbound Dort Hwy from S. Saginaw St., how many times have you almost been hit there while merging?
