What Did You Almost Get Away With When You Were A Kid? [VIDEO]
When I was a kid, I was a huge fan of the movie ‘Back To The Future’, and I was also interested in film making. Being the pyromaniac that I am, and was at eight-years-old, I decided to try to recreate the fire trails in our garage.
I poured two parallel lines of gasoline on the concrete floor, and had them come together “off-camera” so I could light them both at the same time. I was amazed at how well my plan worked! I then decided that I wanted the fire trails to be a little longer, but at the time I didn’t know that you should never pour gas on gas that’s already ablaze.
Needless to say, things got really bad… really fast! I watched as the fire climbed up to the gas can, and as I started to panic, I threw the can across the garage sending fire balls everywhere. I found a sand pail and rushed to the water faucet on the side of our house, filled up the pail, then returned to the scene.
I threw the water on the blaze, and nothing happened. I looked in the bucket and saw light from the fire shining through the giant crack in the bottom of the bucket. I then ran in the house and found a fire extinguisher in the back room. From the other side of the house, my mom asked, “Jeremy, what are you doing?” I replied, “Nothing, mom!” and sped back to the garage.
I was pretty good at figuring things out (with the exception of gas on gas), so with no hesitation, I pulled the pin and was able to douse the fire before any major damage was done. I was pretty proud of myself for taking care of the fire by myself. I thought that if I could clean up the white powder residue left by the extinguisher before my dad got home I would be in the clear. But as I was thinking that I heard a voice behind me scream, “Jeremy!!! What are you doing?!?”
I was busted! Apparently the smoke billowing from the garage windows prompted our next door neighbor to call my mom. She was on the phone when I ran in for the fire extinguisher. If only I had the time machine and could travel back to before I poured gas the second time!
We look back on the fiery fiasco now and laugh. But as I write this, I realize that my oldest son is the same age I was when this happened. What am I in for?
