A Muskegon-area infant is recovering from a gunshot wound, after her two-year-old brother found a loaded gun in a closet, and fired several rounds inside the home.

One of the bullets hit the girl in the arm. She was treated at an area hospital and released.

Police tell WOOD-TV that the children's mother was home at the time of the incident. The .22-caliber rifle has been seized, pending further investigation.

Muskegon County Sheriff Dean Roesler noted the dangers of having a loaded, unsecured firearm in a house with children, and urged gun owners to take the necessary precautions to keep weapons out of the reach of children.
