A Grand Rapids food distributor is recalling about 5,400 cantaloupes distributed to independent grocery stores throughout Michigan, because of a possible Listeria bacteria contamination.

The tainted fruit was distributed July 23-26 by Heeren Brothers Produce. They are Athena Cantaloupes, but have no stickers to identify them as such.

If you suspect that you may have purchased one of the affected melons, you are advised to discard it immediately. Consumers with questions can contact Heeren Brothers Produce at  616-452-2101.
