Beginning in August, the US Postal Service will discontinue Saturday mail delivery. Packages, however, will be delivered six days per week.

The USPS, which is billions of dollars in the red, hopes the move will save $2 billion annually. Mail delivery has declined substantially in recent years, as Americans have become more reliant on email, and online systems for communication and bill payment.

An online poll by The New York Times concludes that about 70% of Americans support the move.
