The two seniors were surprised with the scholarships during an honors ceremony on Wednesday.

Atabong Khumbah and Roshni Rangaswamy, who attend Washtenaw International High School in Ypsilanti, were announced as recipients of the Exceptional Learner Scholarship, which gives them each $50,000 to attend a four-year university of their choice.

Both students are first-generation Americans - Khumba's parents moved here from Cameroon, and Rangaswamy's parents moved here from India. She plans on going to George Washington University to study pre-med - she wants to be an OB/GYN.

Khumba has narrowed his options down to Brown University or Johns Hopkins University.

The scholarship was set up and given out for the first time last year after a $1 million anonymous donation. The scholarships will be given out until 2030.

Congratulations!!!!
