Fair warning - this is hard to listen to.

The Transportation Safety Administration has released new audio from September 11th, 2001. It includes voicemails and answering machine messages from people in the planes and the World Trade Center, calls between air traffic controllers, calls between first responders and more.

Not gonna lie to you - this took me right back to that day. I got in a car accident that morning; I was learning how to drive stick and I rear-ended somebody in front of me at an intersection. It was my second week of college. I drove to my parents house thinking, "God, they're gonna be so mad." My dad came home from work and asked if I had been watching TV, which wasn't the question I was expecting.

"Of course I'm not watching TV! I just rear-ended somebody!"

He said, "Somebody flew a plane into the World Trade Center."

Needless to say, the fender-bender took a backseat to the rest of the events that day. The woman I hit even called me to say, "Don't worry about it. Other things are more important."

While I was listening to this, I had moments of guilt. Hearing the last words people said that victims said to their loved ones, hearing the terrorists...and then I remembered this famous quote:

Those who don't know history are doomed to repeat it. ~Edmund Burke
