Q: What's a reasonable amount of Halloween candy to allow my child?

A: If you make a fuss about candy, your child is going to want it more, says Jeannette Jordan, R.D., a Charleston, SC-based spokeswoman for the American Dietetic Association. So let him have a few pieces on Halloween since it's a special occasion. Afterwards, permit him one piece of candy following a healthy dinner. That way, it becomes dessert. Finally, don't add to your child's Halloween stash by giving him more candy. Instead, drop stickers or a book in his treat bag.
