Reports are still coming in from all over the state after strong thunderstorms pounded lower Michigan around lunchtime today. As they went through Flint, the storms prompted a special weather statement from the National Weather Service warning of heavy rain, high winds, and pea-size hail. The storms continued to build and packed such a punch that the NWS would later trigger Severe Thunderstorm Warnings as they moved into Oakland County and points to our southeast.

Trees and power lines are down all over Mid-Michigan, and flooding continues to be a problem. Wind gusts were clocked at 59 MPH in Flint, and tree branches larger than three inches in diameter were down near Hill Road and I-475 in Grand Blanc Township. Elkton up in Huron County was drenched with more than two inches of rain in just over an hour.
