The Detroit Tigers got their second win of the 2011 season tonight, beating the previously unbeaten Baltimore Orioles 7-3 behind the stellar pitching of Justin Verlander and the slugging of catcher Alex Avila. Verlander struck out 9 in 8 innings of work in picking up his first win of the year, while Avila drove in 5 runs with a double, homer and a single. For good measure he also stole a base. Miguel Cabrera and Victor Martinez also hit solo homers for the Tigers. The Tigers wind up thier road trip with another game against the O’s tomorrow before coming home to take on Kansas City in the Home Opener Friday afternoon at Comerica Park.
