The Tigers had their ace, Justin Verlander on the mound.  Usually that gives them a better than average chance to win.  So far this season, they haven't given him much help.

Detroit squandered scoring opportunities in the second, fourth and ninth innings, managing to plate only two runs for the game.  In the second and fourth innnings, they had runners on second and third with no outs.  Justin Verlander was off his game, as he allowed three consecutive doubles in the 4th plus a throwing error (his own) to give the A's all the runs they would need to win.

It was hard to watch this game, the Tigers played ugly.

The good news is:  it's a long season, and they can redeem themselves with a win in the final matchup of this 4-game series in Oakland this afternoon at four.  After they leave Oakland, it's up the Pacific coast to Seattle for three games with the Mariners.

Go Tigers!
