Flint students received more bad news this week as the school board announced that Carpenter, Cummings, and Scott elementary schools would all be closing at the end of the year.

This will force Brownell-Holmes, Durant-Turri-Mott and Potter to extend to K-8.  This will effect more than 750 students and end up with at least 30 teachers losing their jobs.

This major issues that this move will cause for students, parents, and teachers will save the district about $1 Million over 7 years.  That sounds like a lot of money until you consider that the district is in debt $21 Million.

Nobody can deny the fact that Flint is shrinking, but we've said for a long time that eventually the school district will run out of things to cut.  A fact that still shocks me is that over the last 10 years, Flint has closed more than 20 schools! TWENTY!

If you have questions or concerns Flint school district has a hotline you can call at 810-767-6013.  There are also three upcoming forums at different schools to discuss the pending closings.
