Today on the Cars' Classic Lunch we celebrate Theme Thursday by searching out songs that follow the theme of "Streets & Highways". Here are my five top picks. If your favorite isn't here, make sure you call (810-239-1079) or email your pick to me (JPatrick@WCRZ.com) to add to the show.

    Ventura Highway

    America

Funny that a group from London, England would call themselves America, but this big hit in October of 1972 heads my list of favorites for this weeks theme.

  • 2

    Baker Street

    Gerry Rafferty

This monster hit and gold record from April 1978 spent six weeks at #2 and never made it to the top of the Billboard chart. It shows up today on my list of favorites for the theme.

  • 3

    Main Street

    Bob Seger

"Main Street" is a classic Seger ballad. It followed the release of Night moves and help keep Seger as a viable artist in 1977. He would follow this chart entry with "Rock and Roll Never Forgets".

  • 4

    Takin' It To The Streets

    Doobie Brothers

This hit for the Doobie Brothers in 1976 is a perfect fit for our theme today and one of my favorites from this group. The vocals of Michael McDonald were among his first recording with the group that he joined a year earlier.

    Freeway of Love

    Aretha Franklin

The "Queen of Soul" kept her lengthy career going with this big hit in 1985, almost a quarter of a century after her first chart hit. It locks in at number five of my all-time "Streets & Highways" theme.
