‘The Simpsons’ Showrunner Al Jean Reveals Final Scene of the Series?

The Simpsons Series Finale Al Jean Simpsons Roasting on an Open Fire
FOX

If FXX’s ongoing 12-day marathon of all 522 ‘The Simpsons‘ episodes reminds us of anything, it’s that the series’ enduring popularity makes it impossible to say when FOX might finally call it quits on America’s favorite family. Whether or not “You’ll Never Stop the Simpsons” however, showrunner Al Jean has a very specific (and familiar!) image picked out for the distant future’s series finale.

Tweeting out his thoughts on the marathon, Jean shared his idea for the series’ inevitable end, wanting to call back to the very first episode from 1989, “Simpsons Roasting on an Open Fire”:

As far as the upcoming 26th season goes, we know that premiere installment “Clown in the Dumps” will see a long-running character from an Emmy-nominated vocalist killed off, though stars and producers have only narrowed down so much. And while ‘Family Guy‘ will pay a visit to Springfield in its own episode, ‘The Simpsons will also see ‘Futurama‘ guest stars Billy West, John DiMaggio, Katey Sagal, Phil LaMarr, Lauren Tom, Maurice LaMarche, and Tress MacNeille reprising their 31st century roles for “Simpsorama.”

Realistically speaking, we have to imagine ‘The Simpsons’ coming to an end sometime in the next 10 years, but should Al Jean stick to his idea of returning to the series’ roots, what would you think? Has our nostalgia for prime ‘Simpsons’ gone too far? What might the series even look like by the time ‘The Simpsons’ say goodbye? Take a few minutes off from FXX’s marathon, and give us your thoughts on ‘The Simpsons’ ultimate end in the comments!
