Several years ago, I was pulled over for speeding. After I handed the officer my license and registration, I asked him how long he was sitting there before I came along. He said about 10 minutes. I replied, "I'm sorry officer, I got here as fast as I could. I didn't mean to keep you waiting."  My roll of the dice paid off as the officer got a good laugh at my comment, and he sent me on my way with a warning.

While what this guy did got a laugh out of the officer that pulled him over, he still got hit with a fine. He belted a cardboard cutout of the Dos Equis spokesman in the front seat so he could travel in the carpool lane. After getting pulled over, the officer tweeted in good humor, "I don't always violate the HOV lane law... but when I do, I get a $124 ticket."
