"The day at Meijer was a great place for him to be in charge of his day, in charge of his money and take the time to slow down and pay attention to what he was interested in."

Our son requested to have his 9th birthday party at Chuck E. Cheese. But Fletcher Moore from Grand Rapids had a more "unique" request - he wanted to spend his 9th birthday at his local Meijer store. So his parents obliged, and he spent 9 hours on Saturday (the day after his actual birthday) at Meijer.

Friends, family and even his teacher stopped by the store, with one friend even giving Fletcher the $16 that he got from returning his bottles. He ate sushi, had birthday cake, rode the mechanical horse and played video games. He received a behind-the-scenes tour of the store, and Meijer co-chairman Doug Meijer stopped by and gave him a handwritten note.

"I would spend the whole day in a cardboard box with one of my children if that was their birthday wish," Fletcher's mom told MLive.

If our local Meijer was this nice, I'd spend all day in there, too! It will be, eventually.
