Teacher’s Letter About Students’ Hygiene Causes a Real Stink
A veteran teacher is facing disciplinary action after sending home a handwritten note addressing hygiene concerns with all of the the children in her Prekindergarten class.
Sharon D. Perry Dunnigan titled the note "URGENT NOTICE!!!" and said the cleanliness of her students was a health and safety concern, noting, "It also makes it difficult for me to be close to them or even want to touch them. Enough said."
Board members and parents are upset because the note went home with all of the children in Dunnigan's class. Normally such concerns are addressed to parents individually, and often times with the assistance of a school nurse or social worker.
Did this teacher really cross the line?
