Taylor Swift Has ‘Dubstep-Inspired’ Track on ‘Red,’ Admits She Listens to A Lot of R&B + Hip-Hop

Taylor Swift experimented on her new album ‘Red,’ which drops Oct. 22. Perhaps all those guests she brought on stage last year during the mammoth ‘Speak Now’ tour and all the covers she performed of regional artists when passing through their cities rubbed off on her songwriting!

Rolling Stone heard the album, claiming that one song, which is a “key track,” included a “dubstep-inspired bass breakdown.” Wow. That’s different, and we’re curious to hear how Swift pulled EDM off!

Another song, dubbed ‘State of Grace,’ is said to be a “U2-style epic with reverb-drenched guitars.” Whoa, U2? T. Swift siphoning influence from Bono? You don’t say? Interest, meet aroused.

Swift, a noted fan of TV crime procedurals, isn’t shy about admitting her passion for hip-hop. “I have so many playlists full of Rihanna, Nicki Minaj, Lil Wayne, Chris Brown,” she gushed. “I love Wiz Khalifa.” Time for a Taylor Swift remix of ‘Black and Yellow?’

Swift also addressed the fact that she worked with songwriters on ‘Red,’ something she had not done prior. She did just fine penning all the songs on the mega-selling ‘Speak Now’ on her own, so why fix something that wasn’t broken?

“I felt like an apprentice,” Swift said about her songwriting partners. “They taught me so much about melodic sense, and they let me do what I love, which is the lyrics.”

As for those lyrics that she loves? She touched on — you guessed it — love! “I know general things about love,” she said. “How to treat people well, what you deserve and when to walk away. Other than that, love is a complete mystery – and that’s why I like to write about it.”

This is why our gal T. Swift is the teen set’s poet laureate.
