PETA Targets City of Turkey for a Vegan-Friendly Name Change [VIDEO]

The animal rights group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, better known as PETA, does some good work, but it’s the organization’s more absurd stunts that often make headlines — and this one is a prime example.

Citing the suffering of turkeys during the Thanksgiving season, PETA sent a letter to the mayor of Turkey, Texas and asked him to change the town’s name to the tofu-based meat alternative “Tofurky” instead.

A desperate search is underway in Turkey as rescuers look for victims buried in the rubble caused by a magnitude 7.2 earthquake. The quake hit yesterday afternoon, and at least seven aftershocks as strong as 6.0 have hit since.

President Obama made a statement yesterday saying that the U.S. will "stand shoulder to shoulder with our Turkish ally in this difficult time and are ready to assist the Turkish authorities." Read more to check out videos of the aftermath.
