But that doesn’t mean it wasn’t a good year for some of the artists who hit the road — including Lady Gaga and Taylor Swift, both of whom made the North American top five in Pollstar’s year-end list of the top-grossing tours.

In fact, Taylor had the second-most popular tour of 2011, bringing in an impressive $97.7 million in the States — right behind U2, who topped the American chart as well as the worldwide tally.

When hippos aren't acting out their roles as the poofy, adorable creatures of popular lore, they're vicious, boat-chasing monsters. Check out this news video from MSNBC, in which a very angry-looking hippo head rises out of the water to chase down Petkau and Willms.
